little blog on the prairie

thanksgiving in july

July 28, 2008 · 11 Comments

I’m thankful that we haven’t had a 90-degree temperature reading in Champaign this summer (so said the Channel 3 guy last night). That may end this week.

I’m thankful for the Little Bloom on the Prairie cheese from Prairie Fruit Farms. Congratulations to Wes and Leslie on their recent award (I can’t remember where it came from, I only remember it was major!).

I’m thankful for Champaign-Urbana’s great local theater scene. If you haven’t seen Where the Great Ones Run at the Station Theatre, you still have one more weekend to catch it. Believe me, you’ll be wanting some truck-stop coffee afterward.

I’m thankful for all the Clifford (and other) children’s DVDs at our local libraries.

I’m thankful for the Cubs still being in first place.

I’m thankful for all of you.

The official high on 7/20 was 91 degrees. If only there were an alternate venue for getting your local news, weather and sports information. Perhaps WICD? or, if you have a dish, wicd15.com? We try harder, because WCIA doesn’t have to.

Teehee. I thought it sounded fishy, but OK. I do have a dish and therefore don’t get WICD. Maybe you guys should work on DirecTV.

Oh, there’s a story there that I can’t really go into, but I believe that the old contracts are up soon, and we should be on Dish & DirecTV whenever the new contracts are signed.

I was going to say…our Prairie Farm party was on 7/20 and it was pretty friggin’ hot!

I’m thankful for LBOTP for keeping a finger on the pulse of central IL!

I’m grateful for you sweet pea. I remember going to my grandparent’s house in Maine one summer and my grandmother had Christmas in July and so for dinner she served our traditional French-Canadian Christmas meat pie with Christmas napkins. I was crazy about my grandmother.

Anyway….all that means that I like Thanksgiving in July…..

Let’s just hope those Cubbies don’t disappoint us during these upcoming games with the Brewers! (deep breath in, deep breath out)

And your Cubbies won last night!

I am thankful for you as well, dearest! Must come see you soon and escape the big city :)

WICD is on DirecTV. I’m confused..?

The question should be, when the heck is DirecTV going to be carrying local channels in HD??

Marty … perhaps you’re thinking of WICS, the sister station which is out of Springfield.

JG — We’ll have you anytime … hope to chat with you soon :-)

Donita — One down, three to go! Have you ever been to Miller Park? Great place to watch a game.

    Cynthia … sounds yummy!

Mike — Please keep me posted about the satellite issue.

    Leeanthro — ah, schucks.

I second Leeanthro. You were one of the main inspirations for me starting a blog, and it’s great to know I’ll find all kinds of interesting info about C-U here on a regular basis. When you took your 9-month “vacation” from blogging that one time (ahem!), I was lost!

The play sounds great; I should try to catch it.

If it weren’t for you, I would be friendless, hot and trapped in Urbana with a huge belly and no one to talk to.

Your blog was my Chambana lifeline.

    I am so thankful.
