little blog on the prairie

we’re local and people like us

July 17, 2008 · 11 Comments

If you’re like me, you were one of the 750 or so people who received an invitation to the first-ever “Local Luxuries” event taking place July 26. Here’s what it is — a half-dozen of the more upscale boutiques in C-U (actually they’re all in Champaign) got together and decided to have a special day full of discounts and gimmicks to bring people into their stores.

If there is one business involved that I am particularly thrilled about, it is Confidentially Yours, the intimates and lingerie shop in Round Barn Shops. I don’t think enough people know about it, and frankly, I think they should. Of all the shops on this list, it is the most essential and perhaps the most overlooked.

Part of me wishes they hadn’t elected to do this on a summer Saturday, when the entertainment calendar is chock full of good stuff, but good shopping is good shoppping. It doesn’t come along everyday. So I thought I’d let you in on the “secret” and then you can shop with me. Instead of having only 750 people on their e-vite list, they now have all of you. Consider yourselves invited.

I just deleted that email without even looking at it since I’ve moved from C-U. But now that I see the 50% off everything at Paris’ I’m almost tempted to drive back to town to buy some jeans!

I heard about CY from Looseyfur. Totally going there. With the whole “ribcage-spreading-from-baby” dealie, I need some new unmentionables.

    I wasn’t invited - guess I’m not one of CU’s finest! :)

I wasn’t invited either! You must be on someone’s mailing list.

Do you have to have the coupon?

I could totally use a new bra!!

That’s why you’re so special - you just give and give and give, until you can’t give anymore. :)

If I shop with you, will you buy me something pretty?

Leeanthro — I don’t think you have to have anything, just show up!

Bro — Your sarcasm is nauseating …

    Mrs. C — It’s totally worth it ..

Sun — sorry to hear that you left us in your dust!

This has been on the radio for the last week or so, I don’t think you need an invitation or coupons to go :)

I love the stuff in Checkered Moon and I’ve been wanting to check out Paris’ boutique. So I think this will give me another (!) reason to go shopping.

Nice to know about; thanks. I didn’t get an invite and hadn’t heard anything on the radio. I’ve been curious about the Paris place; possibly at 50% off, I’d be able to afford to buy something or other.

In my past life I was a shopper, but this might event would have got the ole shopper blood pumping, but alas I will be on the way to the beach. :-( Is Maggie’s Place moving? If so, where to?

Picked up 2 Walcoals, but of course they were 20% off, not 60%.

The clerk didn’t give me the discount at first. The register messed up and she didn’t even notice that she was charging me full price!

The old bait and switch. Lure us with 60% and then all the good stuff is only 20%.

Maggie’s Place is moving to a spot near Huber’s.

I bought a bunch of stuff at Checkered Moon, mostly gifts — although I did treat myself to a pair of groovy sunglasses.
