Diane McPheeters is a woman of many talents and skills. Not only is she an amazing baker (one of these days I will post a pic of Peanut’s birthday cake) but she is a friend to animals everywhere. In case you missed this story in the N-G earlier this week, the Monticello resident has taken in dozens of wild animals who were orphaned in recent weeks after the storms/floods. She is also active in the movement to build an animal shelter for Piatt County at Pontious Farm in White Heath.
On June 24, a benefit will be held for the shelter at the Best Western Hotel in Monticello. “Ladies Nite Out” will feature appetizers, a wine tasting, and more. Admission is free; check it out.
Speaking of fun fundraisers for animals, this Saturday night two bands will play at Memphis on Main to benefit the Champaign County Humane Society. Tickets are $8.

I was so excited to hear about the possibility of a new shelter in the area. We checked out there cats on petfinder but sadly have been unable to get ahold of ANYONE in regards to this shelter-to-be. Do you know her personally? We decided to just scarp the whole idea and not get another cat just yet but it was really discouraging not hearing back from anyone.

The group is just in the process of beginning their efforts. The Pontius family was gracious and generous in giving their land for this much-needed shelter in Piatt County. I don’t know of a point person right now but when I do find one I’ll share that information.
