score one for the puppy dog

The Killer Cockapoo did her job this spring. She chased away most of the rabbits that normally make my garden their own private buffet, and for the first time since I planted them four years ago, we finally had more than one tulip bloom in the backyard.

Here’s the evidence:

So maybe there’s hope for my tomatoes.

My tulip problems are always the squirrels and my tomato problems are always the dogs. They’ll indulge in an occasional rabbit, when they aren’t too full of tomatoes.

We don’t have a dog so the kids run off the bunnies (one of which they’ve named “Roy”).

Why don’t rabbits eat mint? I have something like a metric ton of it growing in my back yard and they won’t touch it. What’s wrong with them? The irises and lilies survived the bunny munch when I first planted them 3 years ago and now the bunnies leave them alone, too.

Can we train her for deer chasing also?

This weekend is Woofstock in Decatur, perhaps Killer would like to go. H and I are going for the bands (my dentist’s band and also long time friend B-man’s band are both playing) while Bob takes a much needed guys camping trip.

Two falls ago I planted really expensive (that’s relative) huge purple sensation allium among my hostas for a pop of early spring color.

The next spring the stems quickly rose and huge flower heads appeared. They were just about to open and show their purple glory. And the next morning…

…some damn animal lopped off every single flower head. I was so pissed. I have optimism this year. I hope the animals stay away from them.

Now if only I could get the woodpecker to stop destroying my Adirondack chair!
