little blog on the prairie

hot off the presses

You can no longer search by name on the Champaign County Property Record Search web tool, due to “privacy concerns.”

Property Records are public record, so this is very disappointing. Don’t blame me; it’s been months since I posted about how looking up how much people paid for their houses was one of my favorite pastimes.

Perhaps it’s because Michael Jordan finally bought a place here?

This just hacks me off. They should be making it as easy as possible for the public to access records.
    Just the opposite is true.
They forget that “we” are the public and if we take the time we have a right to access this information - in the archaic form - printed.

    Ignoramuses.

It’s Zillow.com’s “recently sold” for a zip in Champaign.

    Go fight City Hall! :)

Darn, it was one of our favorite past times, too. Especially because we might be in the market soon (well, a couple of years if we’re lucky).
