Random thoughts:
- Chick-fil-A is open for business at the Illini Union food court (where Mickey D’s used to be). It blessed us with the first batch of waffle fries on Monday.
- Longtime lbotp readers know my fondness for lists. We are green and skinny, but evidently we are not “smart.” Forbes ranked America’s 25 smartest towns, and put several college towns on the list, but we’re not one of them. OK, I’ll grant that the people in Ithaca, N.Y., might be smarter than us — they’re Ivy Leaguers. But Iowa City, Iowa???
- Here’s my annual warning about the high school wrestlers invading town this weekend. It’s actually a really cool event, especially the Grand March of finalists on Saturday night before the championship matches.
- Jupiter’s pizza got some love from ESPN.com’s Pat Forde in a recent column (at the bottom).
- Congrats to Uno, the beagle who captured Best in Show at last night’s Westminster Dog Show. Mr. lbotp and I felt certain that he would not get top billing, since any sentimental crowd favorite is usually overlooked. I’m still angry that Andy the golden retriever didn’t win a couple years ago.

I like CU, but having spent 5 years in Iowa City, I can tell you that it is WAY smarter and more sophisticated. It has more culture, better restaurants, much better book stores, and much prettier geography. Of course Iowa itself tends to top the literacy and education lists, so it’s no surprise. BTW, ten years ago Iowa City was at the top of this list, so it’s actually fallen in the rankings.

My parents live outside of Iowa City, and I have to say that every time I come back to C-U after a visit I always ask ‘why can’t C-U be more like Iowa City?’
It has more varied and interesting restaurants, one of the best bookstores around, lots more cultural events…

Crowd favorite? The favorite of everyone I talk to was Tina the corgi! What a lovely black headed tri bitch!! Of course that could just be because I congregate with corgi people!

Okay — I live in Iowa City right now, and I wish it were more like C-U! Yes, it’s got some fantastic bookstores, but that’s the only thing I think it’s got over C-U.

Hmm. I’ve never eaten at a Chick-Fil-A. Guess I’ll have to rectify that situation.
How funny that Forde mentioned Jupiter’s. That’s great.

I love Iowa City….my sister taught there for several years. In some ways I wish she had been living there when we left Chicago—-we might have moved there instead of CU….but you can’t second guess those things…..if we had made any different choices we might not have Leo and Owen…..
