a special day for a special doggie

Is this selfish?

Tomorrow is the Killer Cockapoo’s fourth birthday. I can’t believe my baby is four. Although she is definitely slowing down, her killer instinct has not waned. The other day she caught a full-grown rabbit in the dark and brought it to our stoop to show me her conquest. She dropped it and proceeded to do laps around it like a vulture. When I opened the door to see if this animal was alive or dead, the bunny took off.

We are going to have a little party for her, with one catch. The cake will be of the human variety, meaning too much sugar for our canine companion. If this were still farmer’s market season, I could have bought her a proper Happy Birthday treat. I found something at Target, but it was for Valentine’s Day and therefore had a ridiculous VD price tag. Too bad there isn’t a suitable place in this town to buy gourmet dog treats …

ooh, I could send you a few REALLY good recipes! The ones Sully has been devouring lately are cranberry cinnamon cookies, but he also like sweet potato cookies and I’ve got a neat recipe for cake that uses crushed up dog food. Ohh, or you could make your own frosty paws, that’s what we did for Sully’s birthday party but then, it was a little warmer outside then. Nonfat yogurt, bananas and peanut butter into the ice cream maker! Yum!

I did a quick search, and supposedly America’s Country Store in Savoy carries something called Pup Dog Bakery treats? Also according to the search, Jerry’s IGAs carry something called Bark Avenue gourmet treats.

I saw Valentine’s treats for dogs at Target this weekend. They were heart-shaped. They were located on the endcap on the main aisle where the animal stuff is.

    Thought of you!

The Le Roy Christmas village had a whole shop devoted to dog treats. I have no idea where the vendors came from, but supposedly they were local.
