DST spells disaster

November 2, 2007 · 12 Comments

If you’re like me, you’re wondering what the heck the point of daylight savings time is in the 21st century. The powers that be have tinkered with our time to the point that fall back, spring forward just doesn’t make much sense anymore, and has confused folks across the country.

In our house, this week Peanut has decided to adjust the time herself, only she went the wrong way. She’s been waking up an hour earlier pretty regularly for the last seven days, quite possibly due to the nasty lingering cold she can’t seem to shake. So that means that on Sunday, we will be waking up at the ripe old time of 5 AM. Mimosas are on me.

So when you’re headed out Sunday, don’t forget to be on time an hour later. I know we won’t be late.

i am dreading the time change. my peanut (we call him that too!) is 5 months old and all over the map with sleeping right now. nothing like adding a time change to mess things up even more! on a side note- i’ve been going to a baby group with him for a few weeks now. it’s really helping both my sanity and his social interaction skills. we even tried the new yellowfin restaurant and he was able to sit through dinner without a meltdown- all thanks to lbotp’s entry about baby groups in the area. thanks!

The point of daylight savings time is that you get an extra hour in the evening in the sun. In fact, I wish the clock in Urbana owuld move two hours forward. It would be so great, having sunset well after 9pm for a month at least during the summer.

Anyway, good luck with the 5am thingy.

My husband’s (crappy PC) decided to change the time on it’s own last weekend. I guess it didn’t get the memo from congress.

I have liked the darkness at 7:00 am lately. We’ve been nestling together.

I don’t know why we don’t just adjust it half an hour and then leave it.

Oh crap, I’m going to Indiana and have plans on Sunday morning at 10 am. I bet we’ll completely miss our date.

I’m with Leeanthro - I like the dark mornings.

Per Peanut, keep her up an hour later. If you do that once, she should be back on track.

Yeah. Why can’t we be on DST year around? As a matter of fact, in this digital age, why do we have to change it exactly at 2 a.m. or 1 a.m. whichever it is? Why can’t we gradually change to year ’round by adding a minute a year for the next 36,000 years?
Or slow down the digital clocks on the weekends so we have 28 hour days?
    hmmmmmmmmmmm?

My little one usually wakes up at 530am…so I dread tomorrow morning…but he will adjust eventually….I hope.

My cat gets a treat every night at 10PM. It’s 9PM and she’s sitting on the arm of my chair staring at me and making little noises of impatience. Her internal clock obviously failed to reset.

My brother (the famous, athletic and funny one in the family) noted THIS.

The four-year-old woke up at 4:38 AM this morning and is still going.

    I am decidedly not.
