pink houses for you and me

Is the Assembly Hall cursed? The big white spaceship has had three big-name concerts cancelled/postponed in the past two weeks. First, it was country star Travis Tritt, who postponed his Oct. 11 show to April 17.

At least TI, the rapper who was to perform last Sunday, had a good reason for his absence. He was arrested over the weekend in Atlanta on federal weapons charges.

The latest is John Mellencamp, who cancelled his Oct. 27 show without reason. Perhaps the man just can’t sell the big arenas like he used to — or everyone in the area went to see the Mellencamp cover band that played in Danville this summer instead.

Perhaps they’ll recoup all the lost income with those $65 tickets for the Cirque de Soleil show on Nov. 10.

I can’t think of a single singer or band I’d pay over $50 to see. I refuse to pay Ticketmaster their scalper’s fee.

A decade ago you could call the Great Woods (Ma) ticket office at the beginning of the season and order tickets for all the shows at once. They’d send you the tickets in the mail. Tickets were in the $15-$40 range. Then Ticketmaster got involved and everything went through the roof. And oddly enough, that’s when huge waiting lines for tickets started. Go figure.

Did anyone see John Cougar (as his friends call him) on Ebert and Roper? Oh my lord, what an idiot that man is.

Holy cow pats! I certainly hope John “Cougar” Mellancamp isn’t being a diva, though his behavior seems to lean that way with such a short cancellation notice.

How soon they forget? I will shed my pride to admit I attended the first Farm Aid waayyyy back in the 80s … the catalyst for Mr. Mellancamp’s promoters who were all too quick to get him a concert at the AH within two weeks after Farm Aid. Usins bein’ the Farm Folk an’ all, the concert was a quck and ready “must have” and the ticket sales made a nice jingle in their pockets, but I don’t recall any of it going to impoverished farmers. Who?

    Indeed.

“Check it out. … Hope they have a better understanding …”
