my frain is bried

I’m sure all of you are waiting with bated breath to hear my take on Urban Outfitters coming to town. Yawn.  Every college town in America seemingly has one of these (was at the one in Bloomington, Indiana a while back. Bloomington is much smaller than C-U). I’m just surprised it took so long — so long that I’m just too damn old for that place. (Gamera uses this news to make another plea for blog pet Trader Joe’s.)

Did any of you see the obituary in the News-Gazette the other day for the 64-year-old woman who had 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren? My brain is still trying to process how that is possible.

You know you live in Central Illinois when … there are corn husks all over your yard, and you live more than a mile away from a corn field.

Hey all you stay-at-home-dads: check this out.

Seriously, dude, the corn husks in the yard freak me out. I guess I should have expected them, since we live on a corn field.

    But still.

I was always confused by Urban Outfitters. I wanted to like it but never did.

Also, where’s your squeeing for joy because we now have a Banana Republic post? Did I just miss it? I had to find out by actually walking by the Banana Republic that it was even open!

    Free corn husks! discount Tamales!

I liked the old safari style Banana Republic of the late 80’s much better. Haven’t bought anything from the new trendy store.

I always liked going to Union Station in St. Louis and seeing the Jeep and big giraffe in the middle of the mall.

My excitement about the banana republic has been greatly tempered by the sketchy store selling live animals down the corridor. I have been to the mall once in the last six months. I mostly just look online!

There is no way I’m buying anything from the banana as long as the dog store is across the way–however, I am using the place for convenient returns on online-purchased merchandise. Not that I’ve returned anything I’ve bought online yet, but its the only time I would think of to utilize the new location.

My grandmother has 33 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren (and counting). How is that possible? Four words for ya: German Catholic Dairy Farmers.

We have to rent out the church hall at Christmas to fit us all. Seriously.

    But is your grandma 64?

  • Cassie // September 27, 2007 at 5:44 pm

    You’re right. She’s not. She’s well into her 80’s.

I’m so happy to see others not shopping the mall due to the puppy store! I will never shop there again until that place is selling only cute little outfits and biscuits like it should be. Or it’s gone, either way. GGP also owns the strip mall that contains Hancock Fabrics, Kohls, etc.

I’m happy to see that the puppy store is still a controversial topic … haven’t been there for a bit but the last two times I dropped in I noticed their merchandise was all on sale and the inventory of puppies was less than on previous visits.

Hey now, it’s not that hard. I’ve got 32 first cousins! You just have to breed, breed, breed! Sadly, some woman was asking me directions to the Pet Store while I was at the Farmer’s Market yesterday. Yuck!

My hubs family is like that. Wisconsin Catholics that marry and start having kids in their teens. B’s grandmother is well into her 9os. She was having grandkids born by age 34 and great grands by her late 50s. I can’t even guess how many great grands there are now as H is great grand #14 thru her first daughter’s line alone.

    1. Banana Republic looks too much like Express, now. I concur that the jeep and giraffe days were much more interesting. I doubt that I will be shopping at the BR.

    2. Selling puppies in a mall is clearly a bad bad thing, but why punish stores like BR for GGP renting to a puppy store? I don’t get it.
