Mr. lbotp came home last night with a word of advice for me: wear headphones to the big Harry Potter release fiesta, because some people will jump right to the end of the book and will blurt out the conclusion. Of course, he added that I was a really big nerd if I did that.
I want it noted for the record that lbotp will not be having a Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows release party on Friday night, but it won’t be hard to find one here in ol’ C-U. Of course the usual suspects — Barnes and Noble, Borders, Pages for All Ages (they had a searchlight going last time) are preparing their events. But even big box stores have gotten into the spirit of things and are hosting Harry Potter celebrations as well.
In the DBP (days before Peanut) I was a regular at these parties with another muggle adult pal. The last book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, came out two years ago yesterday. That was before I even knew that Peanut existed. Even though it’s (supposedly) the last book, I think I will sit out this circuit. And the Illini Union Bookstore even has an alternative for people like myself … a Harry Potter release party on the actual release date (how novel). On Saturday morning, from 9 to 11 a.m., the IUB (located in Campustown on the corner of Wright and Daniel) will have its own party for those who aren’t night owls (pun intended).
I spoke to one of the organizers of the IUB party, and while the concept behind the party was to serve the public, it also was more practical for the store. They didn’t think being open that late on a Friday night was such a good thing, not with Kam’s and C.O. Daniel’s just down the street.

Pages is the place to be. They’ll have games and people dressed up. I’ve worked it before, but not since having kids.
I’ll be lucky to stay awake to read the book. I may have to listen to it on CD when I return to work. If you haven’t listened to the Potter books on CD, they are wonderful!

Miss E — oops, I forgot about the libraries! Then again they usually aren’t open that late …
Leeanthro — there was an article in the New York Times in the last couple days about the man who voices the HP audio books, you should definitely check it out.

My sister had her copy reserved in January and had it sent here on the Cape.
I don’t get it. I just don’t get it.
